Banks are open from 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Automated Teller Machines are prolific, including at airports, banks, along main shopping streets and in malls. International credit cards and ATM cards will work as long as they have a four-digit PIN encoded. Please check before leaving your home country.

Drink-driving laws apply and the limit is equivalent to approximately 3 standard drinks in an hour by an average sized man. It is illegal to not wear a seatbelt.

Electricity is 240 Volts AC, at 50Hz using 3 pin slant plugs. Although some hotels may have 110V sockets for electric shavers, it is advisible to bring a voltage converter for any other equipment.

Time During summer, New Zealand time is GMT + 13.

Tipping As a general rule, New Zealanders do not depend upon tipping for income. While tipping may be appreciated, it is rare, and most New Zealanders are paid a fixed wage or salary.

Weather Christchurch temperatures during November are typically mild and it is late spring. There is a reasonable possiblity of rain.
